My research focuses on dynamic Earth processes associated with marine geohazards and resources from the upper mantle to the ultra-shallow crust. I am particularly interested in lithosphere-biosphere feedback loop interactions. I use passive (MT) and active (CSEM) marine electromagnetic techniques integrated with seismic reflection and tomography, gravity, magnetic, and oceanographic data to study complex oceanic lithosphere mechanisms.

I. What are the depth of origin, volume of melt, and thermal structure of the Hawai'ian mantle plume?
II. What is the nature of complex lithospheric processes driven by mantle flow beneath arc systems?
III. Can seafloor minerals promote the global New Blue Economy?
IV. What is the interplay between mantle plume, submarine freshwater, and biodiversity?
V. What is the role of pore fluids in earthquake-susceptible fault systems?
VI. Do submarine freshwater and gas hydrate systems at subduction zones interact?
VII. Can we adequately delineate gas hydrates and geothermal reservoirs to sustainably use as future clean energy?
We live in an exciting scientific era, where questions regarding Earth’s complex processes can be addressed by conducting interdisciplinary science using diverse methods and cutting-edge technologies. I am thrilled to be part of the world’s marine geophysics scientific community, hoping to contribute to solving contemporary challenging problems such as climate change, new freshwater sources, and geohazard mitigation. Also, I am keen to explore new sources of rare elements to help the inevitable transition from hydrocarbons to green energy.
